The Division
The Customer Strategy and Technology team within Transport leads the development of long-term, multi-modal network strategies and place plans across NSW. We leverage data and insights, implement new technologies, drive innovation and build partnerships to provide customer-centred solutions.
The opportunity
An opportunity for a full-time Record Cataloguer to join the onsite digitisation project tasked with providing public access to Transport’s historic photographic collection from the former NSW Department of Main Roads and NSW Roads and Maritime.
This role is responsible for the original cataloguing of photographs and supports the Historical Archive Digitisation Project to ensure proper physical and intellectual control of assets.
Key tasks include data transcription, collection documentation and description for physical and digital assets, to specified standards; object handling and packaging; updating project documentation. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high attention to detail in performing repetitive tasks, meeting project KPIs.
What you will be involved in:
- Accurately create detailed catalogue records for digitised photographs to enable discoverability and online public access.
- Accurately transcribe and format information from physical assets and archival materials to create collection metadata.
- Accurately match physical assets to digitised images and collection documentation, meeting project requirements.
- Undertake relevant research where applicable.
- Exercise integrity and discretion when assessing and composing source data to ensure work meets best practice and project standards.
- Undertake repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of attention to detail to meet production requirements.
About you
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of preservation and conservation of both digital and analogue records.
- Professional experience on collections, archives, cataloguing, database, digitisation or digital asset projects.
- Solid experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organisational skills characterised by attention to detail.
- Excellent research skills combined with the ability to synthesize and contextualise archival information.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of relevant stakeholders or stakeholder representatives.
- Sound written, verbal, reporting and presentation skills.
- Ability to comfortably balance needs to work autonomously with being an active team member.
- Experience managing potentially sensitive materials and data with a high level of integrity and discretion.
